- Your engine knocks under acceleration
- Your car runs rough or stalls
What is a tune up now days?
The nature of a “tune-up” has changed quite a bit over the years, but the basics of how an engine works have not. Three things need to be present for an internal combustion engine to run: Fuel, Air and an ignition source. Clogged fuel injectors, dirty air and fuel filters, and corroded spark plugs can all decrease engine performance and contribute to decreased gas mileage and performance. That’s why it’s important that we check all components and sensors. We examine your car’s air filter, fuel filters, PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valves, and spark plugs. We also connect to your vehicles on board computer and make sure all the sensors are working properly.
How often should my car get a tune up?
The frequency at which a newer vehicle needs a tune-up is dependent more upon driving conditions than mileage and recommended tune-up frequencies vary between 30,000 – 100,000 miles, depending on the manufacturer. A general rule that we follow is every 3 years or 30,000 miles. To learn how often your vehicle needs a tune-up, check your owner’s manual. If you cannot find the information there, we will be glad to look up the service intervals for you.
